Description
Description: Many refugee and asylum-seeking children face substantial barriers in their education, including language challenges, heavy homework loads, and limited individual support at school. These obstacles can hinder their academic progress and affect their confidence. Christian Action Centre for Refugees supports these young learners by providing tailored educational assistance in a nurturing environment. Join this volunteer information session to learn from Christian Action Centre for Refugees and our Volunteer Leaders how you can make a meaningful difference by supporting students aged 6 to 18. Volunteers offer regular help with Mathematics and Science—especially Biology and Chemistry for upper secondary levels—while building students’ confidence and resilience. Your support will directly enhance their academic performance and future opportunities. Volunteer Roles: Assist students with homework and revision of all subjects (science subjects like Math and Chemistry, etc. are in high demand) Offer encouragement and support to build students’ self-confidence and motivation. Engage with a group of approximately 20–25 students with all volunteers during the Saturday sessions. Collaborate with other volunteers to ensure individual attention is given where needed. Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers must be aged 18 or older. Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. Conversants in Math and Science subjects are very welcome. The homework support sessions run every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. A commitment of at least twice per month is expected. Comfortable working with children from diverse backgrounds. How to join this program? All volunteers must attend the information session and undergo a screening process by Christian Action Centre for Refugees, taking 1–2 weeks to complete before starting. Only volunteers who have attended the information session and successfully completed the screening process conducted by the Christian Action Centre for Refugees are permitted to join the subsequent homework support sessions. Remarks: The session is conducted in English. Location: 17/F, Block E, Chungking Mansions, Tsim Sha Tsui (stairs from 16th to 17th floor). Volunteers must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. Friends or family wishing to join must also register and sign up separately. Please cancel your registration promptly if you cannot attend.
