Description
Description: Each year, more than five million tonnes of waste are dumped in Hong Kong’s landfills, some of which are high-quality, unwanted goods, despite having the potential to be reused.
Volunteers will sort and pack a variety of donated goods (e.g. toys, household goods, clothing, and book) which will then be repurposed and given to the low-income households in Hong Kong or sent to developing countries in Asia for a second life. This program not only helps ease the burden of Hong Kong’s landfills and has a positive environmental impact, but will also help give essential items to people in need.
Volunteer roles:
The tasks vary according to what is most needed, but typically could include the following:
• Sorting and packing donated goods e.g. toys, household goods, clothing, electrical goods, computers, books etc.
• Heavy work e.g. moving furniture, preparing cartons for shipment, unloading donated goods off trucks etc. Get a good work out while helping the poor!
• Container loading if there is one that day
Remarks:
This volunteer activity involves heavy lifting.
All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. If you wish to have a friend or family member join you on this activity, they must first register with Hands On and sign up for the activity.
