Youth Empowered: Shopping with the elderly

Program Description: Over 60% of Hong Kong adults aged 65 or above have limited mobility and tiredness, making it difficult for the elderly to complete normal everyday tasks, including shopping. The programme aims to assist frail and mobility-challenged elderly to complete the important task of grocery shopping, as well as provide support and company, since 10% suffer from depression and loneliness. Volunteers will be divided into groups and help their senior buddy to pick up groceries in a supermarket. They will provide assistance by pulling the trolly and reading price tags, as well as carrying the purchased items home to reduce their physical strain. On-site briefing on communication and care tips, as well as shopping reminders will be given to ensure access to nutritious and healthy food and essential items. Volunteer roles: 1 ) 2 volunteers will accompany one elderly to grocery shopping 2 ) Help carry groceries and other necessary materials 3 ) Ensure the safety of elderlies during grocery shopping Remarks: All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. If you wish to have a friend or family member join you on this activity, they must first register with Hands On and sign up for the activity.
