CARE DELIVERED: Deliver Care Packages to isolating elderly in Kwun Tong

Description: With 1 in 3 elderly in Hong Kong living below the poverty line and more than half enduring feelings of loneliness, the demand for support has reached a critical level. Part of the burden on these individuals and families can be eased through the delivery of food packages and essential supplies brought directly to their doorsteps by caring volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help assemble and deliver these Care Packages to elderly in Kwun Tong - helping to provide food assistance that recipients know can be counted on for that month. These packages are being allocated to households identified as being in need of long-term food assistance and support. Volunteer roles: Volunteers will receive a short briefing upon arriving at the community centre. Volunteers will collect and pack the grocery items and other necessities from a local elderly centre. In pairs, volunteers will then deliver care packages to households, spending around 20 mins in conversation with each elderly individual. By doing so, you’ll help to provide both social and emotional support – and above all, show them that somebody cares. Volunteers may need to pay for their transportation fee to deliver care packages to the elderly in other housing estates in Kwun Tong (around 2-4 bus stops or MTR stations away).
